I hate seeing all the St. Valentine's Day ads on tv. The most romantic and sweetest Valentine's Day gifts I ever received were as simple as a rose, bought by my husband on his way home from work.
His hours are hell, and I knew it. We were (and are) broke, and I knew that. He got me what he could, and I appreciated it more than a diamond ring or a fancy dinner.
I will admit my second favorite, in all of these years, was when he bought me a live lobster from the grocery store, butter, and a rose. He couldn't stand to eat in a restaurant (since he works such long hours in restaurants), but he wanted me to have a lobster, my favorite food.
Of course, the poor guy is sort of stuck about this time of year; Valentine's Day, my birthday, and our anniversary all fall within a two week period of time.....but I still don't try to ask much of him, since he has to work so hard. His hard work is his biggest gift of all, and he does that year round.
