View Article  Farm "Pig Thumping" baby pigs

An AP story on ABC13's website says that the Humane Society of the United States (which they list as the United States Humane Society in the story) has sent a complaint letter to a big pig farm for the practice of "thumping".  Thumping is where an unwanted baby pig is slammed head-first on a concrete floor until blood runs out of it's nose and then it is left on the floor to die, sometimes very slowly.

It seems to me that there are more humane methods of disposing of unwanted baby pigs, at the very least, something quicker.

Since it is only a letter of complaint from an outside organization and not an investigation by local authorities, I doubt anything will come of it.

View Article  We were in a car accident on Friday

Alyssa, Christine, and I were in a car accident on Friday.  I got out of the hospital around 1 PM yesterday  (then I conked out for a long while).  Alyssa got the worst of it; her left eye is damaged, and she has burns from the airbag.  Christine and I both have whiplash.  Christine is the only one of us three who didn't get transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Like an idiot, I didn't have my nitro with me.  The accident pushed me against the seat belt so hard, it caused my angina to really, really act up.  I thought I was having another heart attack.  Alyssa and I were transported to Clear Lake Regional, where I was admitted due to my chest pain.  Luckily for me, the nitro spray and the oxygen mask the EMT used on me on the way to the hospital greatly reduced my pain.

Alyssa will have to see an eye doctor again tomorrow.  So far, her eye is doing better, but now she only sees yellow and green out of it (originally, she only could see blue.  In the car accident, the air bag blew her new glasses off and blew the lenses right out of the new glasses--the glasses were in the back seat, one lens along side the door in the back and one in the front cup holder).  She has bruises and cuts on both arms, a burn on one arm and her chin from the air bag catching on fire.

Ronald said, of course you took your daughter driving on Friday the 13th...

View Article  Coyotes go everywhere, doesn't everyone know that?

Apparently not.  Some scientists had to actual study coyotes to find out that the canines live all over Chicago.  Why didn't they just do a roadkill check?  I have seen dead coyotes in the middle of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.

Coyotes LOVE humans.  We leave all sorts of goodies out for them to eat....garbage...house cats...little dogs, and so on.  A coyote in the city is just wandering around sampling the buffet.
