The "controlled burn" which was supposed to only cover 360 acres spread to 2700 acres. Luckily, no one was hurt. I wonder why a burn was allowed on a day with high winds and during a drought. That seems a bit idiotic to me.
The controlled burn started Thursday morning about 30 minutes before the county’s burn ban took effect, but high winds and dry conditions caused it to spread by Friday to about 2,700 acres — much more than the 360 acres planned for the controlled burn.
Only a really, really dumb person would start a fire 30 minutes before the burn ban took effect. It would seem to me that just putting a burn ban into effect should have told the park managers that a "controlled burn" might be dangerous.
