One of the funniest things I've read in a movie review in ages...

And it didn't actually even come in the review, but in the advisory afterwords:
-- Advisory: This film contains violence, gore and profanity. By watching high-quality geek filmmaking, you run the risk of turning into a geek, which can be very expensive. (Did you think video cards were cheap? And did you think Adam West just gives away his autograph?)
(Emphasis mine.)
Of course it's expensive! Everyone wants to be a geek these days, but not everyone has the discipline to achieve total geekiness. Most just can't budget their money for the necessities of life as a geek.
A true geek, I would much rather have my computer, a stack of science fiction books from Half Price Books*, and the Sci-Fi Channel over new clothes or a new car. Seriously. Heck, all new clothes will do is get muddified by the dogs, and the car would get scratched to hell and gone by those selfsame dogs.
Most geeks can't even claim to have spent rent and food money back in the day of Heathkits and Timex Sinclair 1000's......nor of waiting in a line over a mile long to see Star Trek the Motion Picture--three times in one weekend (yeah, I know, but it was so good to see them together again). Of course, I used scholarship money for it. After all, I could always buy used books.
Like geeks everywhere, Serenity is definitely on my weekend to do list.
*Real geeks actually read a lot of science fiction books, and then lend them to family or friends and then have lots of great discussions about them. Wannabees run off to Barnes and Noble and spend too much and keep the books to themselves like the books are made of gold. It's like the difference between Trekkers and Trekkies. And if you have to ask what the difference is, dang are you reading the wrong post!
