Christine also took many pictures of the beautiful birds that eat in my mom's front yard.  Mom puts cracked corn and bird seed in a little decorative stand in the front yard, right in front of her kitchen window.  It isn't a bird feeder per se; she also has flickertail squirrels and other creatures that eat there.  She scatters the food, and the birds have to hunt around for it, but not as much hunting as if they had to go find it in the wild so they are often there.  We saw finches, woodpeckers, bobwhite quail, blue scale quail, cardinals, and some we could not identify.
