Michael Kunzelman reports that greyhounds are dying of an unidentified infection and tracks are having to shut down while fighting the spread of the disease.

One vet thinks it may be a version of "kennel cough", a common dog disease like a human cold.

Damn.  Greyhounds are so beautiful and have such great personalities it makes me sad to think of this disease spreading like it is.  I am glad the tracks are willing to shut down to protect the dogs.

By the way, they make great adoptees after their racing days are over.  If you are interested, here are a few of the many organizations out there that can give you information.
