View Article  Serenity and Firefly

I never watched Firefly when it was on TV.  In fact, I wanted to see Serenity just based on the trailers at the theaters.

Ron and I decided to see Serenity because it at least looked cool when so many of the movies coming out of Hollywood just plain sucked.  We weren't expecting much, since we hadn't seen any of the series (and, in fact, didn't know there had been a series until a few days after we saw the movie).

I loved it.  Ron walked out of the theater without saying "Well that sucked", which means he at least liked it.  (He says "Well that sucked" to just about every movie he ever goes to...it has become a running joke amongst his daughters and I about how long it will take him to say it after he gets out of the theater.)

It was a movie that had real characters in it.  True, we didn't understand some of what was going on, since we had never seen the series, but the story was complete enough for us to still enjoy it, the action was great, it had some very funny scenes in it, and the acting was very good.

Now that I have the complete series and the movie, I have to say that I think it is a shame it wasn't given enough time to build an audience.  I really think it is one of the most original science fiction series I have seen in a very long time.

Bubba Ho-Tep (Limited Collector's Edition) is a definite must have for any Bruce Campbell fan and any fan of campy horror.  I won't give away any spoilers, but it was a lot of fun.  I can't wait to take it down to the ranch and show my mom.

I like the new  AVP - Alien Vs. Predator (Unrated Director's Cut), though it only adds just over 8 minutes to the story, it definitely fleshes the story out more.

But I really, really like the little comic book that came in the box.  Though tiny, the covers are beautifully done and are slick, metallic, and vibrant.  The front is below, the back is an ad for other DVD comics.  The scan does not do justice to how this cover seems to glow with metallized colors.

This Dark Horse comic book contains three shorts:  Hellbent, Lefty's Revenge, and Chained to Life and Death

The little book is the real deal, despite the tiny size.

View Article  Pack it like Godzilla will handle it...

From Any Soldier.com, a cute description of how to package soldier care gifts:

Packing

Send in easy to handle boxes (say under 10 pounds) and wrap like Godzilla will handle it because he will. Shake your box, does stuff move around? Not good, it won't survive the trip. Big, heavy boxes are just asking for trouble.

(Emphasis mine.)

Hmmm.  I didn't know our packages were routed through Tokoyo!
